A little more than three quarters of the way through the season, the Wilson Baseball team is well on their way to another successful season. Boasting a 17-5 record, the Tigers are looking to win another DCIAA championship and their first DCSAA championship.

In their six DCIAA games, Wilson went undefeated and outscored opponents 158-1. These dominating performances include a 24-1 win against Eastern, a 22-0 win against Anacostia, and an 18-0 win against McKinley Tech. They are yet to play School Without Walls, who they beat in last year’s DCIAA championship and are likely to be their stiffest league competition this year. However, if the Tigers’ phenomenal play continues, they will be the favorites to continue their 25 year reign as DCIAA champions.

In non-league games the Tigers are 6-5, which includes close losses to Washington Catholic Athletic Conference powerhouses Paul VI and Gonzaga. However, the 4-5 record also includes a statement win against St. Albans where sophomore pitcher Collin Bosley-Smith let up just one run in five innings and senior second baseman Sam Himmelfarb hit a seventh-inning go-ahead RBI double.

Both Bosley-Smith and Himmelfarb have been superb this season. On the mound, Bosley-Smith has been the Tigers’ ace pitcher, with 37 strikeouts in 30.1 innings and giving up only 0.692 earned runs per nine innings pitched. Because of his play this season and in showcase tournaments over the summer, Bosley-Smith has received multiple NCAA Division I offers and recently committed to Duke University. Himmelfarb has been one of the Tigers’ top hitters with 11 runs batted in and an impressive batting average of .311.

In order for the Tigers to make another run in the DCSAA, they need to improve their hitting consistency. “We have games where we hit well but being able to do that consistently is important,” said Bosley-Smith. This has been a strong emphasis at practice because when the Tigers hit well, they are incredibly hard to beat.
