Juniors claim victory in Powderpuff

The class of 2019 were feeling confident and well-prepared for this spirit week’s powderpuff game. After last year’s disappointing tie, they were determined to one-up their previous performance.

With most of the school watching from the bleachers, ‘19 started the game with the ball. The senior attack was led by Aleisha Hopkins, flanked by Ellida Parker and Layla McEwen, the team’s running backs. The offense started off slightly lethargic, as the juniors thwarted most of ‘19’s rushing attempts. It wasn’t until Hopkins’ QB sneak to the left broke off for a big gain, but a flag was thrown for holding, reversing the play, and a turnover on downs ensued.

The seniors stopped the juniors with ease despite their shrinking confidence. The seniors’ next possession made it deep into ‘20 territory as senior Edmee Brown brought down a complete 50/50 ball to set up her team. The senior drive was then halted by the halftime buzzer.

After a minor tussle between the cheerleaders of both classes (all in good spirits), ‘20 quickly pounded ‘19 with run after run until quarterback Tara Cousins found the end zone.

Down 7-0 and time already beginning to run out, ‘19 knew it was their last chance to score, but ‘20’s defense proved unbreakable.

The juniors’ offense was able to run out the clock, resulting in the class of 2020 storming the field in excitement.
