Ben and Matthew Di Rosa, who graduated from Wilson in 2017, are now in their sophomore soccer season at the University of Maryland. Ben is a defender, while Matt is a midfielder.

The Di Rosa twins said they chose Maryland because it has one of the top soccer programs in the country, as well as one of the best coaches, Sasho Cirovski. High attendance to their home games was another big factor. Maryland is also well-known for their business program, which is what Matt plans to major in.

The twins always knew they wanted to play together in college. As they learned more and more about Maryland, they saw it was a perfect fit for them. “I love playing soccer for Maryland and am very fortunate to do so. I could not ask more from my experience here. I have made very close friends while also enjoying my classes,” Matt explained.

“I loved Wilson because of how diverse the school is compared to most high schools. Wilson is a unique place and I met some great people throughout my four years there,” Matt said. While attending Wilson, the twins played for Bethesda Academy, an elite travel soccer organization in the DC area. Due to U.S. Soccer Development Academy rules, the twins could not play for both Wilson and Bethesda.

The twins also gave some advice to Tigers aspiring to play sports. “It is important to play in an environment where you can be seen by colleges,” Matthew said. However, the twins also said kids should pick a school where they would be happy even without sports. “When being recruited, you should pick a school because you would be happy there even without sports, not just because the coach there thinks highly of you,” Matthew explained.

The Terps are currently 8-6-3 overall and 4-4-0 in the Big Ten division so far in the fall season. Matt and Ben have logged 1,800 minutes and are two of the team’s most reliable defenders.
