In early October, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described Tulsi Gabbard as a “Russian asset”, essentially accusing her of potentially aiding President Trump’s reelection campaign. While the phrasing may have been a bit extreme, Clinton did have a point. Tulsi Gabbard’s campaign for president has accomplished nothing other than bolstering Trump and damaging any Democrat’s chances against him. 

Tulsi Gabbard is a 4-term Democratic house member who, very shockingly, announced that she was running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. Despite polling at only 1.7 percent, she has stubbornly remained in the race, and it appears her only motive for continuing her campaign is to bring down every single viable Democrat running until the only person who has any chance at the presidency is Donald Trump. She consistently attacks the Democratic Party, accusing them of working against America, and she has spent every second of her time attacking her fellow democrats and trying to make them as weak as possible. She does all of this while still opposing Trump’s impeachment, and refusing to say that she would turn down a position in the Trump White House. Simply put, Gabbard knows she cannot win, so she is now auditioning for a role in Trump’s cabinet. 

In addition to Gabbard’s seemingly endless quest to keep Trump in the White House until 2024, she consistently attempts to harm the LGBTQ community. In 2002, Gabbard supported passing a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as between one man and one woman. Additionally, she spent over a decade working at an organization known as “The Alliance For Traditional Marriage”, which was a prominent supporter of conversion therapy camps. Although Gabbard has since apologized for her past views, she has shown little proof that she cares about the LGBTQ community, having turned down the opportunity to speak at the Human Rights Campaign’s LGBTQ town hall.

If her anti-democratic, homophobic, pro-Trump agenda wasn’t enough, Gabbard also has a history of supporting dictators and human rights abusers. In 2016 she was one of three house members who voted against a bill condemning Syria for its blatant human rights abuses, and in 2017, she met with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who she claims is not responsible for the death of millions in the Syrian civil war, despite clear consensus from the international community that he is a war criminal who is guilty of dozens of war crimes and violations of human rights. 

Tulsi Gabbard is, to be blunt, nothing more than a bigot dressed as a democrat, who will do whatever it takes to help herself—even if it means destroying the world around her. Her effective support of Donald Trump and her ability to ruin anyone who has any chance against him makes her one of the most dangerous figures in America today. Giving her so much as a dollar in campaign donations allows her to keep spreading her hateful message, and enables a campaign that seeks only to destroy. I implore any person reading this, no matter your differences, to remember that a vote for Tulsi is a vote against every good thing about this country, and a vote for the continuation of the evil that permeates our nation today. •
