Something about the fall season makes you want to cuddle up under a blanket, take a million pictures of the leaves turning orange, and surround yourself with that fall vibe. (Just us?) Whether it’s a Halloween horror classic or just “feels like fall,” these are some of our fall favorites. 

Scream (1996): The renowned horror film “Scream,” chronicles a series of murders in a small Conneticut town, following a group of friends trying to survive this horrid time. All anyone knows about the killer is that he wears a ghostface mask, and always prefaces his kills with a chilling phone call to the victim. This 5 film television franchise brings love, drama, and murder to a new level, creating the perfect spooky movie night vibe. 

Sleepy Hollow (1999): A very spooky classic “Sleepy Hollow,” tells the tale of the Headless Horseman’s reign over the small fictional town, Sleepy Hollow, located in New York. Protagonist Ichabod Crane is sent to the town to figure out who is behind the local murders and capture this monster once and for all. Director Tim Burton creates the perfect fall vibe by bringing rustic homes, howling winds, and autumn color schemes to this romance and action packed production. 

Gilmore Girls (2000-2007): Comedic drama “Gilmore Girls,” is one of the more relaxed and happier series on this list. It chronicles the lives of mother, Lorelai Gilmore, and daughter, Rory Gilmore, as they journey through relationships, family dramas, and life together. Fictional town, Stars Hollow, CT, evokes the perfect small town feel as the characters grow together and apart. The show’s cinematography is drenched in a mixture of fall colors, outfits, and a cozy New England ambiance. 

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018-2020): An edgier and dramatic reimagining of the 90s sitcom “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “The Chilling Adventures” follows teenage witch Sabrina Spellman as she comes of age and her powers grow. It takes place in the fictional town of Greendale in the height of the Halloween season. This show has a perfect balance of teen drama, spooky witchcraft, and fall spirit.

Knives Out (2019): A play on classic Agatha Christie murder mystery tropes, “Knives Out” surrounds the Thrombey family as they reunite to mourn the passing if the rich patriarch, Harlan, and figure out if there was foul play. With characters wearing cozy sweaters, overcast gray skies, and a riveting murder mystery, I find myself revisiting “Knives Out” almost every fall. 

Halloween (1978): Another horror classic, “Halloween” features a teenage girl, Laurie Strode, as she tries to survive a desperate fight against deranged killer Michael Myers. This low-budget classic features an iconic antagonist, nail-biting tension, and Halloween decorations galore. As the title suggests, the movie takes place on Halloween, creating a perfect horror movie to revisit in fall. 

If anything, your takeaway from this should be to stay away from the Northeast in fall at all costs, as there is a near-certain chance you’ll be murdered.
