Another year, another busy crew season for Jackson-Reed. The weekend of the 21st was the Head of the Charles race in Boston, a regatta the crew team found success in last year. But this year, the tigers had a relatively quiet regatta. 

Between the girls and boys, the girls four yielded the best placing at the event. Due to a controversial decision made by officials, the girls received a one-minute penalty, and ended up in 35th out of 90 boats, despite their first place win last year. The boys eight received 47th out of 90 boats. 

According to junior Karl Braunoehler, the boys felt prepared for the race, having had a good day of rest as well as a practice row on the Charles. But on the water, they lost composure and didn’t row together. Senior co-captain Tomas Foxley is unphased by the team’s performance. “The fall season is a tuning up period, we want to get underclassmen up to a certain standard and make sure they are comfortable…so that when championship season comes around we can be ready.” Senior Kate Turpin agreed. “I think we’re in a good place to be very successful in the spring and pick up those gold medals.” •
