Many of you may have come across the circulating TikTok that features revealing information about Jackson-Reed. TikToker @Nickypinsker has a collection of videos with a recurring theme: “What your [state/city] Public/Prep School says about you.” If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend you do so.
On October 13, Pinsker posted a video called “What your DC public school says about you, Jackson-Reed.” The video began mildly, discussing the school’s diversity, and name change, and acknowledging our fierce rivalry with St. Johns. However, it gradually dove deeper.
At the thirty-five-second mark, the video highlighted how the building is crumbling like a cookie and how we only found out about our homecoming a month in advance due to funding issues. Then, it took a creepier turn, discussing faculty including science teacher Zachary Meyers and dean Aireon Boone, highlighting their popularity while hinting at some less popular ones (I can’t say who, just watch the video).
Despite his in-depth knowledge about our school surpassing that of some JR students, it can be argued that he was slightly inaccurate about certain things. For instance, he mentioned that “varsity athletes receive special treatment.” Now I don’t know what treatment he means, skipping the after-school line at Wawa, front-row seats to fights, or something else?
After watching his other school-related videos, I noticed that Georgetown Visitation received extensive coverage, including insights into the teachers’ personalities and the casual strolls of the nuns around the campus. Charlotte Hauck, a junior at Visitation said he seemed to know everything about the school, including how crazy a teacher Ms. Patricia is in the hallways and how everyone thinks Mr. Thomas is really hot. Although extremely accurate in specific details, Hauck pointed out that Pinsker missed several significant aspects of the school, such as the cherished Marshmallow Roast. Additionally, he brought up a mystery that none of the students at Visitation can seem to solve: the sudden disappearance of a teacher whose records were cleared within a weekend. Hauck and other students were astonished at Pinsker’s knowledge about this.
The big question is how he comes across all this information. Curious, I slid into his DM’s, asking about the sources of all the information he presents in his videos about different schools. He explained that some of the basic information, including details about diversity and student demographics, can be found in simple research and school statistics. However, the juiciest tidbits come from his friends from the area or social media. He further elaborated that he selects schools based on requests and chooses more from around that area, cities like New York City and DC, based on popularity. He emphasized that the selection of details to discuss in his videos is crucial to making them genuinely engaging or, as he puts it, “slap.” Hopefully, this answers all your questions about how this Tiktoker seems to know our school inside and out.
