With a sister who played squash but never really found interest in the sport, I had equipment lying around my house. Although lacking experience, I would practice with my dad occasionally, enjoying it, but I never knew the basic rules to the game.
In school, I had seen posters around the halls about a squash team here at JR, and I decided to try it out and see if I would enjoy the team and environment. My friend, Rohini, who plays tennis for Jackson-Reed, and I decided to go to the interest meeting where we met the Coach, Jim. Not only was Coach Jim very fun, but he allowed us to feel comfortable with learning the sport. We were taught the basic hits and rules of the game within an hour, having quick rallies against each other and instantly improving. We had met some players on the team, who were impressively good.
With my little experience in the sport of squash, trying out the Jackson-Reed team made me find a sport that I enjoy and will occupy me during the winter.
