Beloved social studies teacher Matthew Burgoyne has been at Jackson-Reed for seven years. Yet this year, when you look at him, he has a new glow… but how? All year long, people have been talking. And even if you have just caught a glimpse of him, the change is hard to miss. We are here to confirm it—Burgoyne has a whole new school wardrobe.
After noticing this shift, students and staff alike have taken to questioning Burgoyne’s style update. Burgoyne’s colleague and ultimate bestie, social studies teacher Amanda Chang has witnessed the increase in inquiries, sitting at her desk just across the room. One day, Chang decided she wanted to turn the joke into a prank. She gathered the Beacon to approach Burgoyne with a request to do an article solely focused on his style. Initially, Burgoyne was horrified, and immediately glared at Chang. But, unwilling to be mocked, Burgoyne quickly gathered up his pride and said the Beacon’s favorite words: “write the article.” And so here we are!
Last year, Burgoyne’s style perfectly matched his job title—a JR teacher. He rotated his set of JR insignia clothing day in and day out. But this year, there is no green polo to be seen. The JR logo has vanished, and in its place is Madewell mens, JCrew, and LL bean.
But that’s enough talking, and now it’s time for you all to see for yourself. Pictured below are a week of Burgoyne’s outfits. Enjoy, and maybe consider adding them to your Pinterest board!
Monday: Starting the week off on a beautiful note, Burgoyne pulled out his L.L. Bean orange and blue quarter zip, which he tastefully paired with some Madewell jeans. Finishing off the outfit, a pair of classic Reeboks were slapped on, with the cherry on top being his iconic cat face lanyard.
Tuesday: Changing the aesthetic to a 2020 dark academia moment, Burgoyne takes a turn with a dark gray sweater vest, a basic white tee, and another pair of classic Madewell jeans. Covering all that up, he whips out a green and navy blue flannel to pull the entire outfit together, finishing it off with some dark blue allbirds sneakers.
Wednesday: Period. It’s Hump Day. Mr. B emulates the look of a camel with his brown corduroy jacket over his beige tee. His jacket sleeves are rolled up like he’s about to take on 50 students doing APUSH revisions on the last day of the term. This is complemented by dark wash madewell jeans and the essential Reebok shoes.
Thursday: Almost done! Mr. B is ready for Friday with his light blue polo over a white t-shirt, topped with a brown zip up and the return of the superior Madewell jeans. Keeping it classy, Mr. B takes a turn with his shoe choices and slaps on some sleek brown dress shoes.
Friday: Rip him out the plastic, Matthew ain’t acting brand new. Today we have an iconic plaid japanese collar button up under a rain proof blue vest. He takes out his secret weapon which can be paired with anything, some tan slacks, period. The Allbirds sneakers are a yummy replacement of the Reeboks.
