You’ve probably heard the never ending conversations about overalls and fire pits in the halls and wondered, what in the world? Well, you’re welcome; we’re about to give you a breakdown of the shocking and questionable moments from this summer’s Love Island USA season six.
To give you some context, Love Island is a reality TV show that brings in 12 contestants, six women and six men. They are in a remote and elaborate resort for up to two months, hoping that within those 62 days, each will find love! So let’s get down to the essentials!
Stirring the pot
While this show is about finding love, a non-fan might think otherwise because of how dedicated the producers are to tearing the couples apart. Enter the bombshells. When the island was feeling a little too good to be true, that’s when you knew the bomb was about to drop. A new bombshell entered the villa to cause trouble, and most of the time someone’s relationship ended. Whether it was a couple having to pick new partners or send a trusted friend home, you were always curious to know who would end up with who.
Casa Amor
So it’s just a bunch of people who all get with each other, no problems, right? WRONG, the tunnel to lost brain cells (aka Casa Amor) is where every relationship gets tested. Essentially, all of the guys sneak off to another 30 million dollar villa up the street called Casa Amor and are introduced to six new girls. At the same time, the girls do the same with a new set of boys back in the OG villa. For the next three days, they do some interesting challenges, to test if they are truly in love with the people they were coupled up with before in the villa. If the boys choose a girl from Casa Amor over their original couple, they can decide to bring the new girl back to the villa to stay with their original girl. I think you can picture how that plays out.
Kaylor and Aaron, the presumed strongest couple since day one, created the biggest controversy possibly in Love Island USA history. Not even 12 hours after leaving for Casa Amor, Aaron was already with another girl while back home Kaylor was sleeping outside waiting for him. To keep a long story short, the producers then sent Kaylor a video of Aaron and his Casa girl; Kaylor broke it off, but not before Aaron decided not to bring her back, ending in a screaming match and storm off.
Outfits, firepits, and Rob
If you’ve seen any photos from the show, you might be wondering, is it a fashion show? Yes, It absolutely is! Many extravagant outfits were worn, ranging from a Princess Polly bandage dress to archived Vivienne Westwood. But now that the show has ended, one outfit has left the internet buzzing. The overalls. Rob, the snake catcher from Alabama, and his shirtless overalls left everyone wondering if his picture-perfect physique was enough to cancel out his gaslighting.
The end
Typically after Love Island shuts down for the season, the islanders’ Instagrams blow up with follows from viewers desperate to keep up with each relationship and its drama. This year, however, a special surprise was announced on the final episode: a reunion, coming a month later. To hold us over until then, we entertained ourselves with spinning suitcases, iconic monologues, and dangerous Tik Tok lives. To keep it simple, friendships were ended, and relationships exposed. One highlight was final four couple, Kendall and Nicole. In the final episodes, Kendall admitted his love for Nicole, which was not quickly returned. But like any true love story, the heart won! Or so we thought. Immediately off the island, Nicole and Kendall went silent. We later came to find out that their post-island love fell apart due to controversy in the media. Kendall’s life got flipped upside down upon return to the real world, and Nicole made herself the victim. She took it upon herself to dramatically share how Kendall’s tragedies only affected her, forcing the other islanders to pick sides, and it wasn’t a fair divide.
Even though the audience was taken for an exhausting run around the block, we walked away satisfied with a happy couple coming out $100,000 richer. But as we close out our Love Island chapter, we can’t help but circle back to one familiar question, one every JR student will understand: where were the fights?
