Welcome to fall, Jackson-Reed. As the weather begins to turn colder, and your walk home is accompanied by the crunching of fallen leaves, we once again enter fall baking season. Apple turnovers, pumpkin spice everywhere, and the desire to rewatch Gilmore Girls are only a fraction of the fall ambiance we experience each year. So before you snuggle under the covers to watch your favorite TV show, read our fall review of desserts and bake your favorites.
Cinnamon Roll Cookies:
- A snickerdoodle dough with gooey cinnamon sugar mixed in, this favorite breakfast-turned-cookie makes for a warm, cozy dessert. These are definitely 10/10 and a great way to enter the fall season.

Apple Pie Thumbprints:
- Imagine the gooey center of a pie, but nestled inside a freshly baked sugar thumbprint cookie. An absolute 10/10, a take-me-to-Thanksgiving-now kind of dessert. We loved these and they were a GREAT success.
- Where to find them: Look up a thumbprint recipe and an apple pie filling recipe, then once you’ve made the cookies top them with the pie filling and enjoy!
Chai Cookies:
- A lovely chai cookie made famous by Taylor Swift, plus a generous dollop of icing on top. This is our go-to fall cookie recipe and the smell of them baking brings us right into the autumn spirit. We rate these a 9/10 because everyone loves them.
- Where to find them: Look up the Taylor Swift Chai Sugar Cookies
Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread:
- This pumpkin bread was both the perfect texture and had great flavor from the pumpkin pie spices. We ate these for breakfast more times than we can count and they were still delicious. We rate these a 9/10 because there was just a bit too much chocolate, but that can always be fixed!

Spooky Slutty Brownies:
- Made from the trifecta of sugar: Pillsbury Halloween cookies on the bottom, followed by Halloween Oreos, and, lastly, a layer of brownies. We rate these a 9/10 only because we believe that regular cookie dough and Oreos would make this better.
- Where to find them: Layer Pillsbury cookies, Halloween Oreos, and your favorite brownies, and bake according to brownie instructions, adding 20-25 minutes to the baking time.
Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Toffee Cookies:
- An amazing buttery cookie that melts in your mouth, these are by far the best cookies we’ve ever made. In fact they are soooo good that we make them every month! A 12/10, we would eat these for breakfast, lunch, dinner, AND dessert if we could. They are a bit of extra work but they are definitely worth it!

We believe the way to the heart is through the mouth, so the best way to celebrate fall is through cookies, brownies, and breads for the season. Happy baking! •
