Going to a school in a city like DC, jobs are a common extracurricular amongst students with the extensive range offered at every corner. From working at a restaurant to babysitting, jobs are a great way to earn money, get some much-needed experience, and meet new people. There are tons of jobs to choose from. Here are some JR favorites!
Babysitting can be a stressful job (trust us, we know), but it can also be super rewarding. Taking care of a toddler isn’t an easy set of responsibilities, but when it comes down to it, the money can be pretty good. From personal experience, babysitting is a great job to begin with because it’s quite simple and flexible, and is a great way to get some spending money after school.
Whether it’s a fancy restaurant or the Domino’s in Tenley, food services can be a great way to pick up shifts after school, earn some extra cash, and learn about the food industry. While restaurant jobs can be challenging, they can be very beneficial due to the experience that you acquire, ranging from being a host, to waiting tables, to cooking! This kind of job provides excellent job experience and can be really helpful for improving people skills.
Another common way to earn some cash is through working at consignment shops and popular clothing stores. This ranges from everyday shopping at places like the GAP or more unique finds at second hand clothing stores like Secondi. Clothing stores can be high paying jobs which provide experience in customer service and problem solving, as well as getting a better scope of today’s fashion. Also, potential employee discounts don’t hurt!
Tutoring is usually a well-paid job that helps students learn about how to deal with others and their learning struggles. Depending on the subject, it’s an easy job that allows both you and your peers to learn and grow.
These are just a few of the awesome job options in the DC area! There are tons more, especially if you know where to look. We want to emphasize that the majority of these options are a simple bus ride away, and hope that some of these inspired you to get a job or gave you some options if you’re already looking for one.
