This article was a tough one. With so many kids, clubs, and activities going on, it was hard to choose one person’s jam packed day to write about. However, the person I decided to interview was absolutely the right choice. Today’s favorite busy JR student is Emma Britton, the swimmer, sophomore co-president, and amazing leader who’s personality shines through the school.
Britton is an important part of tons of clubs, such as mock trial, youth and government, the swim team, and now SGA president. She chose to join youth and government, which she co-runs with two other sophomores, and mock trial, because she’s always been interested in law and bill-writing. She’s also been swimming for eight years, which is a huge feat seeing as most of us can barely do a backstroke. Finally, she ran for sophomore president figuring she’d be a good leader, and she was definitely right.
Her favorite part of all of these activities is getting to be involved with the clubs themselves and the events that they set up. She loves being a part of SGA because she enjoys hearing about people’s ideas and seeing how they’re executed. Britton says that in SGA, the biggest challenge is getting to hear and combine everyone’s ideas. Youth and government can be tricky at times as it only has a few members, who have the important task of writing bills.
Last year though, Britton wrote a bill about abortion in DC and presented it at Legislative Weekend. She impressively got it approved at that event and got to speak to four DC Council Members about her bill.
Britton and her dedication to her many clubs and activities goes to show you that hard work and staying busy pays off, especially in a huge school like ours, where the extracurricular activities are endless.
