Here at Jackson-Reed, students participate in more than 20 sports, half of which are winter sports. Our winter sports range from the robotics club to our nationally-ranked boys basketball team.
Basketball has traditionally been one of our biggest sports for both players and fans, with the boys team finding national success. The Tigers are considered the best in the DCIAA. After winning five DCIAA championships and appearing in five DCSAA finals, the Tigers also claimed the prestige of being a Nike Elite High School. Nationally, JR boys basketball is renowned and has been ranked within the top 50 high schools across the country by ESPN.
Crew is often considered the pinnacle sport for Jackson-Reed. As the oldest crew program in the city, it continues to stand alone as the only DC public school rowing team. Founded in 1985, the program has trained world-class athletes for over 30 years. The rowing team consists of over 100 athletes spread across four teams: varsity boys, girls, novice boys, and novice girls.
Robotics is another of our highly competitive winter sports. The team uses advanced tools such as a laser engraver, 3D printer, drill press, band saw, a variety of saws, and power tools to achieve precision and success in their award-winning designs. Their highly advanced robots lead the team to an overall victory in the citywide regional robotics competition.
With tons of sports, especially in the wintertime, each team needs lots of support and school spirit to continue their respective traditions of success. See you in the stands! •
