We’re here today to give you the top five chicken spots of Tenley. Before we jump into our list, let’s clarify what qualifies us. After all, we are merely teenagers. First, every time we have hung out in the past four years, we have bought chicken. This year alone, we have spent over $200 on chicken. That’s not it though, we assembled a team to help us rank and give their two cents. With our credibility established, let’s jump into reviewing!
- Wawa: worst overall
Wawa was highly recommended, but did not live up to the hype. We could blame it on the nuggets being out of stock, and instead being given some type of chicken finger (and finger it did resemble). The look was unappetizing, and earned itself last place. The taste was reminiscent of dino nuggets with a texture of stone. Would we eat it again? No! Did we have a bad reaction to it? Also no (Caroline begs to differ. She had to spit out a finger). Sorry Wawa lovers, your chicken earned itself a 2/10. Sauce did not improve the texture, but taste was ok with BBQ.
- Popeyes: best potential
We are Popeyes lovers. We often split a five piece chicken tender meal. However, Popeyes discontinued nuggets, so we ordered the boneless regular wings. This was a mistake! The flavor was as Popeyes as it gets, but the texture of the wing left much to be desired. It only slightly improved with a MASTER combo of ranch and BBQ, but as it was drier than the Sahara and had way too much breading, we had to knock it down a few places. We would rank the tenders higher than the boneless wings, but to be fair we only considered nuggets. Sorry Popeyes, we still love you!
- Roaming Rooster: freshest chickeny chicken
To rep the small business, we had to try Roaming Rooster. It was hot, fresh and tasted like real chicken. The breading could have been crisper, but it was well seasoned and a solid nug. However, it just didn’t hit the same as some. We know this place has die hard fans and we want them to know WE SEE YOU and we LOVED the chicken. Also, one of our team members loved the ranch, so we got a solid middle ranking. Left something to be desired, but not bad at all!
- McDonalds: most reliable
Is it real chicken? Unclear. But you know her, you love her, she does it again and again. Give it up for Mickey D’s. This might embroil us in controversy, but we have to shout her out. There’s probably a nostalgia factor to the hold this “chicken” has on us, but all we know is the flavor is great, the shape reminds us of childhood, it has a good crunch, the barbeque never disappoints, and it’s very budget friendly. Mickey D’s never goes out of style (barring the recent quarter-pounder E. coli outbreak).
- Chick-fil-A: best overall
First, we do not condone their politics, this is just about chicken. It is always packed at lunch and afterschool. We were heartbroken when it shut down this summer. It is never open on Sundays, the one day we want it. It is our go-to chicken spot; Chicken Felina (better known as Chick-fil-A). Mascot, crispy bits on the side of the tender, all perfect. We won’t lie, sometimes we get a bare nugget and it’s disappointing, but 99% of the time, flying colors. It tastes just chicken-y enough, but we are not concerned about biting into a nasty bit. It’s just fatty enough to be tender, but not too much. Maybe the pricing isn’t the best, but the sauce is!
