I recently came across a TikTok that featured popular Instagram comedian Druski singing the iconic “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole in his typical, satirical but humorous, Druski fashion… Of course, I got a kick out of it but as I watched the video, it dawned on me that Christmas is officially upon us! From childhood, the anticipation of Christmas is a truly special and indescribable feeling. From anxiously waiting and counting down the days until it hits to the stressful feeling of trying to find the perfect gift for your loved ones. However, the biggest thing on your mind as a child was whether or not you made the naughty or nice list and would be receiving all the gifts you asked for. This, my friends, is where the concept of “The Elf” comes into play. Elf on the Shelf is a sort of toy that is essentially used to encourage kids to be on their best behavior throughout the days leading up to Christmas, or else the elf will go back to Santa, give a bad report, and put you on the naughty list. This concept is pretty unsettling and creepy. Like just imagine a 15-inch toy tracking your every move… what?!?! It’s truly egregious! The concept is pretty clever because it alleviates the stress from the parents and makes life easier. But it’s about to be 2025, and if you ask me, Elf on the Shelf should be banned as it’s an outdated concept that doesn’t necessarily curve bad behavior but motivates a child to test the waters and commit bad behavior while their parents aren’t around.
