Between snowboarding and skiing, there are many different aspects of the sports that people enjoy. But honestly, it doesn’t really matter what you enjoy. Snowboarding is just cooler.
When you see a random skier on the slopes, it is nearly impossible to identify them. The person sitting on the bench right next to you wearing bright red skis and a big helmet could very well be an 80-year-old grandmother or a 20-year-old frat boy. On the other hand, when you see a snowboarder, the only word that pops into your head is steeze. Sure, there are skiers that can do great tricks and bomb slopes at otherworldly speeds, however, the same backflips and pipe tricks that skiers do just look better when a snowboarder does them. They look more relaxed, confident, and comfortable with themselves compared to an uptight and angry skier.
Aside from the cool factor, snowboarding is also more comfortable. On skis, you have to force your feet into hard, skinny metal boots, while snowboard boots are cushioned and much more normal looking. Snowboarders can (mostly) walk around just fine, but the painfully loud “clack-clack” of ski boots and the uncomfortable movement is synonymous with skiers everywhere.
One downside is that snowboarding is much harder to pick up than skiing. But, once you get the hang of it, the mountain is yours. This brings a level of exclusivity to the snowboarder club, since only some can master it.
This winter, when you show up to the resort, try something different. Instead of the same old skis, grab a snowboard, relax a little bit, and learn how to be steezy.
