Whether you want to admit it or not, fall is rapidly approaching. The mornings have been a little chillier and I’m sure you’ve noticed the earlier sunsets (rip daylight). However, if you look past the doom and gloom there’s something to look forward to: fall fashion. Though fashion is different for everyone, these are MY picks for timeless fall closet staples.
Trench Coat:
Unfortunately I feel like the trench coat gets an undeserved bad rep. Having been associated with less-than-savory characters, it is no wonder why you might hesitate before adding this to your closet, but hear me out. First of all, your trench coat doesn’t have to be floor length, midi and cropped are equally, if not more, cute! Secondly, this is the perfect type of coat for fall: thin but warm so you don’t need to worry about overheating. This is the perfect thing to buy second hand as well, Vinted and thrift stores are teeming with them!
Knee High Boots:
Finding a good pair of boots is hard. Not even I, thrift master and Depop guru, have found a good pair of practical, reliable, and cute knee-high boots. However, this is not to say it’s impossible. I have found these are also quite abundant in the thrift stores and good ole’ TJ Maxx always seems to have a pair of discounted Frye boots (if you know, you know). These, of course, will be on the pricer side but they could not be more worth it. They can go with pretty much any fall outfit, from knit dresses to the mini skirt-Brandy Melville sweater combo, so if you think about cost-per-wear, they’re basically free…
Chunky Scarf:
I am going to be very honest: I can’t stand scarfs. I think that they are an overstimulating nuisance that don’t actually keep you warm. Nevertheless I am self-aware enough to know that this take is wrong (maybe not the warmth thing though, I stand by that). While not for me, I think a big knit scarf will always be a banger addition to an outfit and, luckily. As for options, I personally, like everyone else, love the ACNE studios one, but the almost 400 dollar price tag is not as appealing. Do not fear though, if there is one thing you can count on the internet for, it’s a good dupe. So go check out Urban Outfitters, Etsy, and Cotton On to achieve it-girl final boss status today. •
