The only place to be this Friday, February 19, is at the VFW 350 in Takoma Park, where three Wilson student bands will be performing. Your Mother And I Are Separating was started by sophomores Leo Canty (vocals and guitar) and Lauren White (drums), freshman Diego Ortiz (guitar and vocals) and junior Sarah Robinson (bass).They classify themselves as “post-punk slacker with rock and funk influences” according to Canty. Alongside them will be the band Blast, featuring seniors Jonah Garland (drums) and Zetis Nguyen (guitar and vocals). They play an alternative/indie rock mix of originals which can also be found on Soundcloud. The event will also feature Bucky’s Fatal Mistake, with senior Charlie Steinman (guitar and voice), Blair High School’s Chris Jones (guitar) and Eleanor Linafelt (bass, backup vocals), and The Nora School’s Mike Williams (drums, backup vocals). They will be playing songs from their upcoming album “Big Red Brick House” and possibly a few covers. “We play dirt-driven, groovy rock and roll and are prepared to bring the house down with the full force of rock,” says Steinman. Alongside these musical acts will be a short comedic performance from Aidan Saccocio. The show starts at 7:30 and will be free to enter with a suggested donation of $1.
