For over a decade, Tenleytown’s Janney Elementary School has hosted a craft sale at the beginning of the holiday season. It started off as just a few families and students, but has now grown into a neighborhood-wide celebration with participating restaurants, businesses, and even a scavenger hunt. This year Winterfest will begin November 25 and end December 3.
Throughout the whole week, restaurants all across Tenleytown will offer discounts to customers who mention Winterfest during their visit. All weekend people will also be able to participate in a scavenger hunt for small yetis hidden throughout the neighborhood.
The main event, the Janney Winter Market, is on Saturday, December 3. This year the market will have over 100 vendors selling everything from handmade jewelry to toys to food.
The Tenley Winterfest Committee is partnering with Tenleytown Mainstreet to put on the celebration this year. Tenleytown Mainstreet is a nonprofit organization founded in 2015 to revitalize Tenleytown and its businesses. According to the Winterfest website, they hope the festival will expand every year and reach more people across the neighborhood.
