In the aisles of the Tenleytown Target, one would be surprised at the variety of Oreo flavors available. The diverse assortment ranges from the original flavor that will never get old, to limited edition flavors that could ruin such a treat. To answer everyone’s burning question about what Sour Patch Kids Oreos taste like, we took it upon ourselves to rate Target’s selection of the classic cookies.
Original Oreos: 10/10
The Original Oreo will forever be a timeless classic. With a vanilla cream middle housed within two chocolate cookies, the Oreo is objectively one of the best desserts to have.
Golden Oreos: 9/10
In this rendition of an Oreo flavor, the chocolate cookies are replaced by two golden vanilla ones. Without the chocolate cookies, there is no contrast between the filling and the cookie, ultimately making it a bit boring to eat. They are superior to other flavors (especially some we tried later), but not the original. We used this cookie as a palate cleanser (a testament to its boring flavor).
Churro Oreos: 5/10
The thing with an Oreo flavor such as churro is you can never expect what you’re getting into. Will it taste like cinnamon? Sugar? Who knows? We know. Upon opening the package, the filling was rather thick and beige, and immediately both of us thought it looked awful. The filling itself was edible but the combination of the entire cookie was not. The cinnamon in the filling overpowered the cookie with a flat spice and caused a grainy texture, making the eating experience less enjoyable.
Peanut Butter Oreo: 3/10
In the iconic Parent Trap scene regarding eating peanut butter with Oreos, Annie James says, “Most people find that totally disgusting!” Well, most people are right. Not only did it just taste like peanut butter straight from the jar with a cracker, but it was almost identical to Ritz peanut butter crackers. We will say that these were a steal! A family pack cost the same $4.99 that the rest (which were significantly smaller) did.
Sour Patch Kids Oreo: -10/10
“Sour Patch Oreos” will sound disgusting no matter how one phrases it. Needless to say, we already knew what we were getting into (or so we thought). The Oreo filling does indeed capture Sour Patch Kids’ motto “sweet then sour”. While on a gummy that’s not bad, we can confirm sour is the worst possible option for an Oreo to taste like. Esme even said, “this ruined Oreos for me” after she tried it. A good thirty minutes later, the taste was still there. We both said that our dads would enjoy them, and we were correct (so maybe it’s an acquired taste?).
Although not every flavor is for everyone, there is certainly an Oreo for everyone. From just the simple Oreo to the uniquely flavored ones, something will be perfect for you. That being said, you may still get judged if Sour Patch Kids Oreo is your favorite flavor(and in our opinion, rightly so).
