With the holidays practically around the corner, there’s no better time to get comfortable on your couch and binge watch the best seasonal movies. As a self-proclaimed movie rewatcher and enthusiast, here are the top five movies you absolutely need on your holiday watchlist.
Home Alone:
If you’ve never wondered what you’d do as an eight-year old left behind to fend for yourself against two idiotic robbers, do you even celebrate the holidays? Between Kevin’s ingenious traps and the burglars’ spectacular incompetence, you’ll be laughing the entire time. And once you’re done, the sequel is just as good. But skip the rest, you’ll thank me later.
Elf:
Will Ferrell in yellow tights running around New York City, a holiday classic that never gets old. Buddy the Elf’s questionable dietary choices and relentless holiday cheer will keep you entertained (and occasionally irritated). By the end, you’ll either want to hug him or hide all your syrup.
Die Hard:
How this is considered a holiday movie, I have no idea, but it’s undeniably a staple for any winter watchlist. A skyscraper infiltrated by terrorists on Christmas Eve, with action, suspense, and a few festive decorations sprinkled in for good measure, what screams holiday more than that?
Love Actually:
With multiple different love stories unfolding simultaneously and a new point of view every few minutes, it’s impossible not to get drawn in. And when you realize everyone’s somehow connected, you simply can’t look away. Love it or hate it, you have to admit that it embodies the holiday spirit.
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation:
A simple family holiday turned drastically wrong. Clark Griswold’s dream of a perfect Christmas goes ridiculously off course, from one mishap to the next. If you’re looking for chaos, humor, and charm, meet the Lampoons. Their festive mess might just be the perfect addition to your own holiday tradition.
Add any of these classics to your watchlist, and consider your holiday season officially started. Happy watching!
