Fashion at Jackson Reed combines a wide range of personalities, inspiration of past and current trends, and different aesthetics to make their own. Our students excel when they mix eras and patterns to build their confidence to own what they wear at school.
Evelyn Gallant’s style is a mix of eras, mostly focusing on vibrant colors and textures of the ‘60s and’ 70s, rooted in her emphasis on comfort and personality. She says that having a vision in fashion is crucial; finding potential in unassuming thrift finds and pairing them with what she likes builds up her unique style. “ I just like to wear what makes me feel good,” Gallant says, reminding us that one’s creativity pairs exceptionally with comfort to create her own personal style that also highlights her individuality.
Antonia Terreza describes her aesthetic as a modern version of early 2000s icons: Lily Allen, Kiera Knightley, Mischa Barton and small parts of Jane Birkin’s effortless self. The roots of her style trace back to a combination of pieces of these icons. What does she advise? Simple but intentional to make every outfit memorable. “You can wear a basic white tee and jeans,” she says, “but pair it with a cute hat or [piece] of jewelry to make it more interesting.” Fashion is art, a colorful piece here and there can elevate the whole look. Terreza claims that thrifting plays a big role in her style, hidden gems and pieces that might be overlooked, allows her to portray a bold iconic look that she rocks everyday.
Natalie Heredia-Lea leans into a darker, more alternative, heavy metal side of the 2000s, influenced by her daily mood. Her striped shirts and her spiky metal belts always seem to pair with her vibrant dyed hair. “My style really depends on what I’m feeling that day,” she explains, “Sometimes it’s a lot and sometimes it’s not” while still making sure what she wears portrays who she is . Natalie advises us to embrace who we are and find ways to show it as well as making sure to save up for pieces you truly love-for fashion it’s always worth it.
And finally, Bella Mara, whose style is inspired by little bits of everyday moments. “Whenever I go to Georgetown I see people with the most stunning outfits and keep that in mind for later.” She has one simple rule when it comes to fashion: wear what makes you feel like a star, because as she says, “Confidence shines more than the outfit itself.” One can have a basic outfit and add a piece that was gifted or hold meaning, a little color and a good lip combo, all together making her outfits stand out.
Jackson-Reed’s students – being the fashion icons they are – remind us that style is not all trends, they are deeply rooted in expression. Find what you like and what makes you feel good about yourself as your confidence is the root of any fashion decision. •
