As the sun finally starts to come out and temperatures reach above 50 degrees for the first time in what feels like forever, it’s time to get a start on our annual summer playlist! Whether it’s a girls gone wild brat summer or more of a lover girl sombr feel, the song of the summer sets the mood and gives us a look-ahead to the school-free months coming! If you’re looking to create a playlist full of songs that make it really feel like summer, here are a few of my favorites:
Up first is Say You Love Me by Fleetwood Mac. This is one of those songs that you put on and just instantly get happy. The bouncy melody and catchy chorus make this one of my favorites to listen to – and it’s the perfect start to your summer playlist!
Indie pop music is a must have for a summer tune, so next up is Listen to the Music by The Doobie Brothers. Something about their voices just instantly scream a summer day of lounging by the pool with your friends, and the instrumentals in the background add the perfect pop of folk to the song. This song literally puts a pep in my step on walks and runs, yet is still perfect as getting ready music.
Next up, Stuck In The Middle With You. Stealers Wheel is a great artist to listen to if you want to explore more music out of the mainstream. Another fave to check out is West 22nd if you want the same upbeat, fun, summery vibe. Sweet! and Can’t Help It are new additions to my playlist that improved the vibe so much!
Lastly, we’re gonna quick-fire songs! These all have the same folksy, happy vibe that will brighten your mood with just a listen: Hey Julie by Fountains Of Water, The Longest Time by Billy Joel, Virginia Highlands by West 22nd, Eyes of the World by Grateful Dead, The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel, and The General by DISPATCH.
If you want songs on the more pop heavy side, I’d recommend the following: Won’t Go Home Without You and Sunday Morning by Maroon 5, Writing’s On the Wall by ROLE MODEL, she’s got a thing about her by Thomas Day, My Life and Only the Good Die Young by Billy Joel, You Make My Dreams (Come True) by Daryl Hall and John Oates, and Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
